September '06 Monthly Quote
Friday, September 29, 2006, 22:38 - Monthly Quote
Ladies and gentlemen I'm glad you're here to share this special moment with me: thenr.net's first "quote of the month!"

And in light of my recent European History rebirth, or Renaissance, shall we, I picked this very special quote.

"The end justifies the means."
-Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527)

Tune in next month for yet another quote! And don't forget the fifth of this upcoming month is thenr's monthly top five! (and if you look at the categories, two new ones were added today - top five and monthly quote - for a grand total of eight!)

Now, isn't that exciting?

Q&A Thenr Style
Tuesday, September 26, 2006, 22:21 - General
Again, things have been pretty busy, and it has been a week since we have last encountered one another. But I'm back, and apparently you are, too, isn't that marvelous?

And now, I've compiled my interrogations into an online list of Q&A about the site. Yes, are you ready?

Q: Who is your favorite Kenya Story character?
A: This is a close call, being the father of all the characters, it's hard to pick favorites - but Keiran wins it, Zorgoth is a close second, and Flannigan's the one with the treasure chest.

Q: What happened to the goats and the cashier?
A: Well, those are all people from the first story on the original island. The later Kenya Stories really won't have much to do with the island. As of now, the fifth installment is scheduled to be the last, and it is (so far) planned to take place on land! Isn't that exciting? no more islands!

Q: When writing the Kenya Story did you link it to the Odyssey on purpose?
A: No, but I'm glad someone else noticed the similarities, too. I like Greek Mythology, and I guess subconsciously this plans out a lot like some myths. But now that I'm aware of the striking similarities, I might work in a few on purpose now. Also, do keep in mind for the characters, at times they also reflect characters from the Odyssey.

Q: Are you going to stop at 5 stories [Kenya Story]? or are you going to continue writing stories in this series or maybe a new series?
A: Well, for now, I think I'll be stopping the series at 5. However, the idea of writing one more story, from the point of view of another character and not calling it part of the Kenya Story is rather appealing. But for now, the Kenya Story ends at 5, and then the chance of a one-story spinoff with one of the Kenya Story characters as its narrator is very probable. Good idea.

Thanks for the questions everyone, I really enjoyed answering them. And just some friendly reminders: I have decided to do a top five of the month, it will be posted on the FIFTH of every month, heh, get it? Top five, fifth of the month - yeah, off the hook. Furthermore, I have also a new idea! A quote of the month. This month's quote I shall be posting shortly, I'm going to try that out and see if you guys like it. And don't forget Kenya Story 3 comes out this December/January.

I'm always open to new ideas, so please comment with anything you've got. If it's a suggestion for a new ritual, try to make it monthly, that's easier for me to plan out and get done.

Thanks for stopping by.

August 06 Stats
Tuesday, September 19, 2006, 20:40 - General, Web/Graphic Design
Here are some interesting stats about thenr.net for the month of August I just figured I'd share them with you.

Total Bandwidth Used: over 4,000 MB. (this is the most I've ever used on all my sites combined ever, and all in one month, aren't we proud?)
206 unique vistors visted the site this August (not including Morsmorde)
The busiest day of the month was Friday, August 25th.
On average the busiest day on thenr.net was Sunday! The second busiest was Friday. Blooming during the weekends.
And lastly thenr.net has been honored by visits from the following countries, in order of pages loaded:
United States, India, Great Britain, Sweden, Singapore, Australia, Croatia, China, Russian Federation, Germany, Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Peurto Rico.

Thanks all that read this, it's the visitors like you that keep thenr.net running!

Anyway, just thought you'd enjoy a little bit of that.

And remember, I'm still waiting for a few more questions on the Kenya Story, so please don't hesitate, I love answering questions. And as of now, I'll officially be answering any questions you have about the site, too, as well as the stories. So, please, ask away!

See, I finally posted the stats.

Kenya Story Bits
Sunday, September 17, 2006, 11:00 - General
I was serious about the Kenya Story questions. If you've got any, please do email them in or leave a comment about it. I've worked in the past few days to plan out the rest of the sequels. It seems interseting, but as usual the end is the hardest part, and the last story doesn't want to be planned out.

But in doing all this, I've expanded on the character's personality, and you'll see a lot more characterization in the third story. Especially expanding upon MacKenna and Keiran, who will be key factors in this story.

Also, for those of you who miss good ol' Flannigan, keep an eye out for him in the third story. You never know where the sneaky British spy might pop out.

Kenya Story Three is estimated to be released sometime during the December break. In the meantime, I'm planning on making an entertaining little quiz named "Which Kenya Story Character Are You Most Like?".

And remember, send in your questions!

And as you think up your questions, I've got a question for you - who's your favorite Kenya Story character? And if you want more info on the characters, maybe you could ask me a question about them!

Kirby in ASCII
Wednesday, September 13, 2006, 21:10 - General, Web/Graphic Design, ASCII Art Gallery
Yes, it's the ides of September! Although a tad late in the day, I shall deliver, as promised, this month's ASCII Animation.

In light of recent obsessions I give you Kirby! (in ASCII Animation Action - watch him show off his moves)

"Kirby!"

Yes, this month's quite simple. Just kirby and his rotating punch. It's a short one, much like the birdy I started it all out with. Now it's back to the drawing board for October's animation.

Don't forget, the Kenyan Story Q and A is going on. Please, ask any question's you've got - leave a comment or email them (contact me link). Seriously, answering questions is more fun than you think. If I get enough questions, I'll pile them into one entry and publish the interview.

Also, that stats post of August is still on its way. Thenr's stat counter for September broke down for about a week, so this month's statistics aren't so accurate - but August is fine. And don't forget that at any time if you want to check up on thenr's basic stats (entries, words used, comments, most commented entries... etc) you can always click on the "Stats" link and have a look. Those stats are exact, so no worries about that one.

Goodnight. (o')

Everything in a Nutshell
Tuesday, September 12, 2006, 17:20 - General, Announcements, News/Politics
Okay, sorry it's been so long. The days have been busy. Time is running away.

As most of us know, yesterday was the five year anniversary of 9/11. I stand humbled.

On a lighter note, the US Open came to an end last weekend, Sharapova, who makes far too much an obnoxious noise for me to like, defeated Henine-Hardenne in straight sets (6-4, 6-4), subsequently Federer took down Roddick, my favorite player now that Agassi has retired, in four sets. I didn't expect much, but the fact that Roddick got a set was pretty exciting!

But there's so much to say today!

Don't forget, that tomorrow is the Ides of September, which means it's time for my ASCII Art Animation of the Month! (I need to get a little tune for this, that I'll blare everytime the phrase is mentioned, you know like in those late night comedy shows?) Anyway, going on with site updates, I'll also be holding a sort of Q and A interview type set up for the Kenya Story series.

Yes, a Q and A. So please, send in your questions via email (contact me link) or leave a comment with your questions about the Kenya Story and all of its sequels. Please, ask away, I love answering questions about it!

By the way, for those who are wondering, the third story is set to come out somewhere between the cross over of December and January, so, maybe new years is a good estimate.

Moving on with site updates, I'd also like to announce a new project that I'll be starting. Model United Nations ONLINE. Yes, a forum on thenr.net where you can sign up as a country, and there will be different commities and all. Generally there will be one person per country, but if you've got a friend you would like to join, you can have a co-delegate deal for that country, just ask me before hand. Anyway, the idea is you sign up as a country and different topics are presented in the corresponding board of the forums. Just like in Model UN through schools and other educational organizations, you post your debates, working papers, and resolutions instead of speaking. There will be rules to guide debates and working paper guide lines and what not. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry, I'll release another bit that'll explain how the UN, and also, the Model UN works! But do be careful in signing up (when it's finished), it's only one person a country, so don't sign up and leave. Model UN is a passion of mine, and hopefully this will work out.

So, let us not forget. Tomorrow ASCII Art Animation, Kenya Story Q and A, Model UN online at thenr, and Sharapova makes too much noise.

Have a good one.

Top Five - 20th Century Literature
Tuesday, September 5, 2006, 22:27 - Top Five
So, I thought it was about time I did some reviews or something close to it at least. I recently experienced an enlightenment in literature and realized how great some of the novels that I've read really were. I guess it just took time for them to rub off on me, but I may as well pass on the favor.

Here are my top five books. Now you'll notice the list will be Vonnegut-dominated, and just a side note, but all three of his books I've read are on the top five, so give that man a read if you haven't already.

Here we go (in no particular order):

Slaughter-House Five by Kurt Vonnegut
1984 by George Orwell
Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler
Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut

Now if you haven't figured it out yet, Vonnegut's my favorite writer, and I've got a few more of his books on my to-read list (Breakfast of Champions and Bluebeard).

Anyway, that's my two cents on 20th century literature. Drop a comment, and perhaps make your own list of five, I'd love to check it out!
